I like to call these sessions with the family and siblings Newborn Roots. This precious bundle of joy is here all because two people fell in love. These first few weeks can seem a bit overwhelming adjusting to the new norm so please do not stress at all about your session. Please see the bullet points after investment prices for information about these sessions. There are also two other options to consider if this investment does not fit your budget.
We spend so much time preparing our homes for the newest addition. From the uniquely designed nursery to all the personal touches throughout the household. Let me capture this moment in the beauty and comfort of your home.
Newborn Only Session
This option will only be focused on your new bundle of joy. There will be tons of variety to make it hard to choose your favorite. We will do swaddled poses in props and on the beanbag and we will also have one outfit for posing in props and on the beanbag.
Newborn Wrapped Mini Session
$175This package is a great option to make sure you still have this memory to cherish for a lifetime.
Schedule Your Session
Once you’ve decide MRP is the right fit for you, we will set a tentative date based on your due date. I understand that babies rarely come when predicted and I will accommodate their personal plans for arrival, but a due date will give us a base line. Once your little one has arrived, please get in touch with me and we will firm up our date and time. Babies are best photographed in the first 6-14 days of their new little lives. They sleep better, don’t have colic yet, and usually haven’t started developing baby acne or cradle cap. If you are a c-section Mom, we can work something out. I know that recovery can be slow and painful.
What To Expect?
You should expect to arrive 15-20 minutes before your session time to feed baby or feed them just before you leave your house to come to the studio. The studio is kept nice and toasty for baby’s comfort. Newborns lose body heat quickly so this is important for a newborn session to run smoothly. You can also dress in layers for your own comfort or relax in the other room where the temperature is more comfortable for you! There will be a white noise machine on as well to soothe baby. All parent and sibling photos are done at the end of the session. Feel free to sit back, relax, read a book, write thank you notes, or even take a nap yourself! If you have younger siblings an option is to having dad bring them towards the end of the session or there is a playroom accessible to them.
What To Wear?
What should you wear? Neutral colors are great for family and sibling photos with a newborn. It helps to keep focus on baby and avoid distraction. Wear something comfortable. Bring something to change into after I am done photographing you with baby that is nice and cool. I typically photograph only from middle of the torso up so don’t worry about the baby bump that hasn’t gone down just yet!
Preparing Baby For The Session
It helps immensely if you can try to keep baby awake one to two hours or so before the session, I know this is difficult sometime’s but it can help allow baby to get into that deep sleep for their session. The sleepier they are the more of those “bendy” and “inside the womb” looking poses we can accomplish. Giving them a bath before can also help to keep them awake before arriving to the studio.
Try to put baby’s diaper on very loosely to avoid those red marks when we do naked shots. Also try to dress them in something that is super easy to take off, the full sleepers with a zip are fantastic if you have one! If you use a pacifier with your baby please make sure to have it along for your session, it can help a ton with soothing baby throughout! Feeding schedules typically don’t work during newborn sessions, sometimes babies need a little bit more milk than usual just to get back to sleep through the couple hours you spend with me.
If you breastfeed I may ask you to try to nurse during the session, sometimes just the act of being fed can calm them enough and allow me to continue shooting. If you formula feed make sure to have extra along just in case! Also make sure to have extra diapers with as well, I do keep wipes at the studio so if you forget extra of those don’t sweat it!
